Derrick Higton Lymington Mid-Week Potter 10th-11th September

As a regular late season rally, this popular event was over-subscribed by the closing date of September 1st, with 30 people and 13 boats booked to attend. Sadly, after such a wonderful summer, the weather gods had other ideas and with just a day to go, the forecast was for heavy rain and a gusty SW wind over tide.
With some of us preferring to sail for pleasure rather than achievement, (the organiser being one!) many were put off and either decided to attend by road or drop out altogether.
Nonetheless, 14 hardy people attended the event. All but 4 having sailed there through the elements and a great evening was had by all.

To get the tides right, the dates were not negotiable despite being on the organiser's 75th Birthday. With Facebook and a wife committed to ensure the occasion was properly marked, the secret was out and a birthday cake complete with candles was presented from the kitchen and a slice each became made an acceptable desert for all.

Lymington Town Sailing Club has seen some improvements in recent years and the venue, food and service we received convinced those who attended that we should permanently shift this annual event from the RLYC to LTSC. We were even greeted by the Club Commodore Heather Chipperfield, who has invited us back whenever we wish to come.
