History

1957 CSSA Formed

1959 2 syndicates operating "Demijohn" on the East Coast

and "Melanie" on the South Coast

1962 First RORC race entry

1963 First RORC trophy for "See Otter"

1965 Portsmouth Offshore Group formed upon request from CSSA

1969 CSSC funds purchase of first club boat "Precedent"

1970 Lady Armstrong names "Precedent" at a ceremony on Whale Island

At a later date, a new CSSA racing club formed for "Precedent", which

was then no longer part of POG.

1974 POG acquires mooring licences from QHM for Weevil Lake, Burrow

Island, Wicor and near harbour entrance.

1975 First moorings were laid and placed in service

1976 On behalf of POG, CSSC obtains a 20 year lease for piece of land and

Old buildings in the corner of the MOD site, Clarence Yard.

1977 Old buildings converted into a Clubroom, Workshop and Storage

1978 Lease negotiated with Crown Agents to dredge, install piles and a

slipway at Weevil Lake, providing deepwater moorings for 40 boats

1978 Group begins publication of the POG Newsletter

1981 A further 20 pile moorings created at Weevil

1983 30 Pile moorings created at Wicor

1987 Major project carried out to convert Weevil pile moorings to

Marina style, walk-ashore pontoon berths

1991 POG moorings comprised: 107 Weevil pontoons, 51 Weevil piles,

Haslar piles 7, Wicor Piles 31 and Burrow Island 35 swinging. A total

Of 231 moorings under POG management.

1995 MOD sells Royal Clarence Yard (including our Club site to Berkeley Homes

1998 CSSC, as our lease holder, commences negotiations to buy back our Club

2002 Ably assisted by the POG team, CSSC secures purchase of freehold.

2002 Construction of new sea defences commenced

2004 New Clubhouse constructed and opened by Sir Andrew and Lady Turnbull

2008 Work commenced upgrading Wicor pile moorings.

2011 Wicor mid-stream pontoon moorings opened by Marian Holmes

2013 A further extension of 7 berths at Wicor, completed.

2017 Alternative Lift/Launch solutions explored by committee

2018 New Roodburg hydraulic launch trailer delivered to POG

2019 Wicor shoreside facilities at risk, as access through Vector is curtailed

2019 By December, access to Wicor was secured by arrangement with RNSA

2020 POG MC start looking at possible merits of becoming a limited company

2022 March, members vote for incorporation. August 26th POG registers

Portsmouth Offshore Group Ltd with Companies House

2023 January 1st POG starts formally trading as Portsmouth Offshore Group LTD

2023 Planned dredging in Weevil Lake for November was completed on time.

2024 POG moves its Website and data portal to Sailing Club Manager.
