Our Moorings

POG has around 240 moorings in 4 locations to suit a range of boat sizes and drafts. There's a variety of mooring types at these locations from swinging moorings at Burrow Island, mid stream pontoon moorings at Haslar Creek and Wicor and the walk ashore pontoons at Weevil Lake.

Waiting lists are maintained for each mooring location. The allocation of moorings is based on membership seniority and the appropriate berth availability. Our premium moorings are in Weevil Lake and it can take some years on the waiting list before an appropriate berth becomes available. In the meantime, many members choose one of the swinging or mid-stream pontoon moorings. As a rule of thumb, the smaller your boat, the earlier you will get a berth.

1. Weevil Pontoons

These moorings are mostly individual finger berths. All have water, electricity and WiFi. Located at the club's main site: The Sailing Centre, Weevil Lane, Gosport enjoying walk ashore access, secure car parking and the clubhouse (with toilets, showers and a workshop). A drying hard and slipway are on the same site, also with water and power. Boats of up to 11.2m can be accommodated, though there is a limited number of berths for boats of this size. There are a handful of moorings for boats over 11.2m but the waiting list for these is lengthy. There are three "Amenity Berths" on the pontoon hammerheads which can be used by members for short overnight stays, or during the day for taking on crew or stores.

2. Burrow Island
Located between Burrow Island and Shell Pier, these moorings are accessed by dinghy from the Sailing Centre where secure dinghy and outboard storage ashore is provided. There are twenty three swinging moorings, all with moorings strops and pick-up buoys. About 50% are semi-drying, for bilge or lifting keel boats, with the remainder deep-water berths. All moorings take boats up to 9.5m. These moorings are available all year round for those with appropriate marine insurance cover but mooring holders can request, along with other members, a Weevil pontoon berth for the winter.

3. Wicor

Situated in Fareham Lake, we are extremely fortunate with this location which offers fine views over the harbour, much wildlife and considerable peace on the moorings. Portsmouth harbour entrance is approximately 45 minutes from the moorings on a good day and the sail downstream is perfect for shaking down and preparing for the Solent. These moorings have the shortest waiting list. Access to our moorings is through the Standard Aero site on the A32, Fareham Road, via the shoreside facilities, where the moorings are just a short dinghy ride. Here there are deep water mid-stream pontoons for roughly 44 boats of undefined length. All moorings have at least 2m at LAT. The shoreside enclosure has secure car parking and secure storage facilities for dinghies and outboards as well as a toilet and a small club room where refreshments can be made.

4. Haslar Creek

Here, we have six moorings on a deep water mid stream pontoon at the bridge end of Haslar Creek. Access is by dinghy from the slip in Hornet Sailing Club on the South side where there is secure dinghy storage and car parking as well as an excellent clubhouse.
