About POG

Portsmouth Offshore Group (POG) Ltd is a company limited by guarantee (CLG). This means that anyone applying to join the club is also applying to join a limited company. Whilst there is no share issue or dividend paid and any profits are re-invested in the club facilities, there is a financial liability on every member, should the company become insolvent. Thankfully, this liability is limited to just £1 per member under the terms of its legal CLG status and we are a not-for-profit organisation.

POG is a sub-division of the Civil Service Sailing Association (CSSA), which in turn is affiliated to the Civil Service Sports Council.

Our Company Number is: 14320735 and our registered office is, Sailing Centre Portsmouth Offshore Group (CSSA). Weevil Lane, Gosport. Hampshire. PO12 1AZ

Our principal objective is to pursue the promotion of the sport of offshore sailing and recreational boating in general. We do this by the provision of moorings in Portsmouth Harbour and boat storage based at the Sailing Centre in Weevil Lane. As a private members club and through the economic way we maintain facilities, we are able to offer moorings at rates substantially cheaper than alternative commercial offerings.

Management and Club Ethos

POG is run by an elected management committee, who are also directors of the company. Some committee members have responsibility for key functions. E.G. Moorings, Facilities, IT, Lift/Launch, Health & Safety, etc. Virtually all work tasks are performed by the members and the Club has no permanent staff other than a part time contract cleaner. The Club ethos is self-help and self-sufficiency. Members are therefore expected to volunteer to help when asked, for example by joining work parties and taking on regular jobs.

Activities/Social Events

The Club maintains a good annual calendar of events including rallies, cruiser racing and socials such as barbecues, formal dinners winter talks and quiz nights. Most of these social events take place in the Clubhouse.

Training

With an appointed Training Officer, we have a yearly programme of both formal and informal training sessions. RYA approved courses are occasionally provided by external, approved providers at favourably negotiated rates.

The Club operates from 4 locations: -
