Club Facilities

Club House. At the Sailing Centre we have a purpose-built Club House, with a foyer where noticeboards provide important information such as our Company Registration Certificate, our Liability Insurance and the fire risk assessment (FRA) emergency escape plan for the building, in case of fire. There is more about the club business along with MC contact details and the site WiFi password. The foyer leads through to Ladies and Gents spacious toilet, washroom and shower facilities. There is a large, well-equipped kitchen with all the usual appliances; fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, oven, etc. The first floor is reached via a staircase with a stair lift, providing disabled access. On the landing is a small desktop computer station which is available to all members and can be used for booking amenity berths or browsing the club website. Into the main club function room, capable of seating up to 90 people. Large picture windows run the length of the room, offering stunning panoramic views across Portsmouth harbour. Whilst we do not run a bar, there is a dedicated kitchen area off the main room, for preparing and serving food and drinks.

Workshop. Within the same building with separate access, we have a well-equipped workshop with work benches, a fixed pillar drill and 'dirty jobs' sink and drainers. There is also a secured, tools & equipment room to the rear of the workshop containing a wide range of tools for use by the work parties for maintaining our facilities. Some of these specialist tools are available for loan to members by arrangement.

Carpark/Hard Standing. Our yard is part asphalt and part un-made compacted stone. In the winter the un-made part provides hard standing for member's boats wintering ashore, with the remainder available for secure carparking. In the summer the whole area is available for parking. On the apron in front of the club house there are a number of picnic tables and to the side there is a double gas barbeque, all of which are used at the various functions held by the club. Access to the Weevil Lake pontoon moorings is gained via the bridgehead and companionway to the south east and to the south, there is a locked gate leading to:-

Slipway and Scrubbing Grid. At the top of the slipway there are 'toast racks' to store member's tenders. These are provided for those wishing to access our swinging moorings north east of Burrow Island. The slipway has an adjacent pontoon, which is primarily used for our lift/launch activity. To the west side of the slipway there is a scrubbing grid with securing piles for use by members.

Dinghy & Outboard Storage. There are further 'toast racks' on J pontoon of the Weevil Lake moorings and there is a secured outboard store in the yard and an outboard flushing tank at the top of the slipway.

Lift/Launch facilities. The club owns a Roodberg submersible boat lifter and transporter, together with a powerful tractor. Operated by a dedicated team of voluntary trained members, the club carries out a winter lift service for more than 40 boats each year, with the subsequent launch in the spring. We have our own boat storage cradles which we hire out to members and the whole operation is performed over the space of a few days around two spring tides in the autumn and again in the spring. We also have the ability to offer short periods of lift/launch in the spring for those who don't want the whole winter ashore.

Wicor Shoreside facilities. The shoreside enclosure at Wicor is an MOD owned site leased by RNSA and jointly, run and used by RNSA and POG. It is accessed via the Standard Aero helicopter maintenance facility where there are special security arrangements which have to be put in place prior to allowing entry. Inside the enclosure there is ample parking, a small club house with limited toilet and washing facilities. There is a common room with lounge seating, along with a small galley for making tea/coffee etc. Outside in the yard there is 'toast rack' storage for tenders along with a number of communal launching trollies and there is a secure outboard store. Through the shoreside gates, there is a slipway and from there it is a short dinghy trip to the mid-stream pontoon moorings.
