We never stop learning or so they say………. and at times we all need access to some enhanced skills and training.

Although POG is not a RYA Recognised Training Centre this does not mean that as a club we cannot arrange both formal and informal training.

Formal courses:

For formal training, where certificates are issued, backed by accredited organisations (mainly RYA), our aim is that we will access the training from external providers. Wherever possible, if student numbers are viable, we arrange the courses to run in the POG Club house. Where that is not feasible the courses are arranged somewhere local. By organising the training through the Club, reductions in cost are usually achievable over individually booked commercial courses. The course that will be available most winters is the RYA First Aid Course at a cost of £45- £50 including First Aid Manual and Certificate. Invaluable to most boat owners.

Other courses and course types can be offered based on demand. We have a formal Training Officer who collates and attempts to facilitate requests for the courses. The full spectrum of RYA training can be found at on their website via this link. Many courses can now be completed on line.

Knowledge sharing:

For non formal training we are hoping to tap into the wealth of knowledge that exists within the 600 – 700 strong membership. For example we had a very popular 2012 “Cruising in Company” seminar was delivered by member Paul White. Paul happens to be a RYA Yachtmaster instructor.

As well as formal seminars and training we also have talks from local specialists and famous boating personalities e.g. Tom Cunliffe.
